For the past week it has been almost impossible to avoid seeing the disturbing video of 6 teenage girls savagely beating one if their former friends. The idea that young teenagers could plot something so inhumane and disgusting is just mind blowing. The idea that these 8 teenagers ranging in age from 14 to 18 could all possibly be tried as adults seems a bit excessive so the question now being asked by the public and the media is, does the punishment fit the crime?  The young girl was kidnapped and  beaten unconscious for 30 minutes but  some media response to the arrest of the 8 teens is that this was just an act of kids being kids and sometime kids get beat up. Although i strongly disagree with this point and believe that this situation is much different than a kid getting beat up on the back of a school bus, I don’t believe throwing 8 teenagers in jail will solve anything.

The film, The Queen, is a movie that depicts the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana dealt with by the Royal Family, the public, and at the time new British prime minister Tony Blair. The film deals with many issues surrounding public relations and its effects. For me, this was my second time viewing the film and watching it in relation to our class, cases and campaigns, gave me a different perspective on the film. While the plot of the film surrounds the death of Princess Diana, that is not what the movie is about. As you see how the Royal Family, in particular Queen Elizabeth II, responds to the public you begin to see how much media and society rely on that interaction.

March 10th post.

Last week we spoke to the woman who works in Ohio, over skype. The idea of speaking with someone so experienced was great, but i don’t think interaction was entirely very useful. I don’t think the speaker understood that we hadn’t received any information about her or her job before hand. The talk was jumbled, and it consisted of her basically talking about her job for 45 minutes without stopping and allowing the class to respond. Therefore, it was difficult to have any response because the information was being presented too quickly and in no real order.

Lets watch more of the office.

chapters 5 through 9

I paticularly enjoyed scotts chapter on podcasting. In a way podcasting is similar to blogging, in the sense that it allows less mainstream, or as the book refers to them “indie”, bands to expose their music to a much larger audience. Blogging is like podcasting for writers. People can post their feelings and thoughts in a blog and have it open for the public to read.

The case studies for this week were particularly interesting. I especially enjoyed the case involving the public relations nightmare General Motors dealt with after Dateline NBC broadcast a report implicating GM trucks as being unsafe vehicles. This story is a classic case of how important public relations is to any business or corporation.

how i feel about c&c

So far i am enjoying cases and campaigns. As far as the in class discussions go I would like to talk more in depth about the reading assignments for the tipping point. I also like talking about the case studies in groups. I think this method allows each of the groups to come up with different conclusions and interpretations of what went wrong and what actions can be taken in order to come up with a feasible solution to the case. The class as a whole seems like it will be very beneficial and helpful. The blogging I am still trying to get used to…

How I feel about blogging

This is my first experience with blogging. I am not really sure what the purpose of this is by i have somewhat of an idea. I believe blogging is used as an outlet for people to get their personal thoughts and ideas out into the world. In this way blogging is sure to be something used by generations to come. I am looking forward to becoming more familiar to this new phenomena.
